Styles 101: Better, Smarter, Faster Text

We kick off by covering InDesign's text styles - character and paragraph styles, nested styles, nested line styles, GREP styles: what they are, what they do, and how to use them to reduce hours of work to a few simple clicks. You'll learn how to set up sequences of styles, change an entire document's look and feel my modifying only a handful of styles, create a set of adaptive character styles and build "smart paragraphs" with GREP styles.

10:15 am - 10:30 am Break

10:30 am - 12:00 noon

Styles Beyond Text: Objects, Tables, TOCs, Variables, and More

Before lunch, we'll pack in the other powerful styles beyond text. Learn how to make sense of InDesign's cryptic Table and Cell Styles, instantly format and modify frames (and the text inside them) with Object styles, use styles to generate dynamic running headers and footer, figure numbers, and tables of contents.

12:00 noon - 1:00 pm Lunch on your own

1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Styles Everywhere: Combining Styles With Other ID Features

By themselves, styles are among InDesign's most powerful features, but they're better when combined with other features. See how Word & Excel import, Find/Change, Cross-references, Hyperlinks, interactivity, and many other InDesign features are improved by and extend what you can accomplish with styles.

2:15 - 2:30 Break

2:30 - 4:00

Styles Beyond Print: EPUB, HTML, and Accessible PDF

We wrap up the day by leveraging styles for cross-media workflows by connecting them to Cascading Style Sheets for the web and EPUB, as well as tagged PDFs. Learn how new CS5.5 features like Export Tagging and the Articles panel allow you to quickly and easily convert your content for your digital publications and web sites.
